Why BT One Phone was switched off

BT One Phone combined a business mobile SIM with a hosted phone system — one number that rang on your desk phone and mobile simultaneously. It was popular with field teams, sales staff and businesses with mobile workers. BT withdrew the service in March 2026 as part of its transition away from legacy telephony infrastructure ahead of the full PSTN switch-off in January 2027.

BT One Phone replacement — questions answered

BT One Phone was switched off in March 2026. The main replacements are GoYap (app-based, from £9.95/user/month), PiPcall Mobile+ (SIM-based, BT's recommended successor), ONSIM (SIM/eSIM on EE network) and BT Cloud Voice (desk-based, requires 60-month contract). GoYap is the most flexible option as it covers mobile, desktop and desk phone on a 12-month term.
Yes. All the main BT One Phone replacements support number porting at no additional charge. Your existing business numbers — geographic (01, 02), non-geographic (03, 08) and mobile — can be transferred to your new provider. The process typically takes 5 to 15 working days. BT's withdrawal of One Phone does not affect your right to port numbers.
GoYap delivers the same core outcome — a business phone system that works on mobile — but through an app rather than a SIM. This means you do not need a SIM swap and can use your existing mobile contract. GoYap also adds desktop softphone support for Windows, Mac and Linux, and IP desk phone support, making it a more complete system than BT One Phone was.
PiPcall Mobile+ routes calls through a SIM or eSIM over the mobile voice network — calls are made through your phone's native dialler without an app. GoYap is app-based and also supports desktop and desk phones. PiPcall suits businesses whose staff dislike apps or need calls to work in areas with poor data coverage. GoYap suits businesses that want one system covering all device types at a lower price point.
Most businesses can be set up and making calls within 1 to 3 working days. Number porting takes 5 to 15 working days but your new system can be live with temporary numbers in the meantime. Your old BT One Phone numbers remain accessible during the porting window.
BT's withdrawal of One Phone effectively supersedes most contract end dates. Many businesses are not being charged early exit fees because BT is ending the service, not the customer. Check your contract terms with BT directly, but in most cases the switch is being treated as a service termination rather than a customer cancellation.
